North Texas Healthcare Coverage Financial Assistance

Who is Eligible?

This program will provide three months of financial assistance to recently unemployed individuals who have lost their employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • Individuals and families under the 350% of Federal Poverty Level ($38,640 for individuals, $52,260 for a family of 2, $65,880 for family of 3)   
  • Individuals in Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant Counties 
  • US Citizens
  • Immigrants lawfully present in the U.S.
  • People with pre-existing health conditions

What is The Affordable Care Act (ACA)?

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is a federal law enacted in 2010. It requires all U.S. citizens and legal residents to have health insurance or pay a penalty. The ACA established the Health Insurance Marketplace, an internet-based system, to provide a public access to shop for qualified health plans and it’s the only way to apply for financial assistance (tax credits) to reduce monthly premiums.

What is The North Texas Healthcare Coverage Financial Assistance Program?

The North Texas Healthcare Coverage Financial Assistant Program was designed to quickly and efficiently connect individuals with health coverage and provide financial assistance to help them afford health coverage.

The Program will provide three months of financial assistance to recently unemployed individuals who have lost their employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and those that qualify to apply through a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) from February 15th to August 15th

When can I Apply and Enroll for Special Enrollment?

Open Enrollment for coverage starts November 1st, 2021 to January 15th, 2022 Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

Outside the Open Enrollment period, you may only get health insurance if you have a Life Changing Event. Visit an Assister to apply for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

About the North Texas Healthcare Coverage Collaborative

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD), the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, and the Dallas County Enroll North Texas ACA Coalition have partnered to launch the North Texas Healthcare Coverage Collaborative (NTHCC), an innovative collaboration formed to address the growing number of uninsured North Texans, as a result of COVD-19, by providing financial assistance to maintain healthcare insurance coverage.

Communities Foundation of Texas’ W.W. Caruth, Jr. Fund, Medical City Healthcare, and Methodist Health System have generously contributed seed funding for this initiative of $200,000, $100,000 and $25,000 respectively.
