United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Welcomes New Tocqueville Society Leadership

As the Ruth Sharp Altshuler Tocqueville Society celebrates its 40th anniversary, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is proud to usher in a new chapter of leadership—one grounded in legacy and focused on continued growth and impact across North Texas.
For four decades, the Tocqueville Society has united an extraordinary group of civic and business leaders whose generosity is matched only by their commitment to driving lasting, systemic change. Named in honor of longtime Dallas philanthropist Ruth Sharp Altshuler, the society represents the very highest level of engagement with United Way—where leadership, vision and philanthropy converge.
Today, that tradition continues as we welcome a distinguished new class of Tocqueville leaders.

Honoring a Legacy of Leadership
This transition also marks an important moment to recognize the leaders who have helped shape the Tocqueville Society over the past 40 years.
Among them are Erin Nealy Cox and Trey Cox, whose leadership during United Way’s Centennial year helped propel our organization to new heights. Their vision—rooted in bold ideas about expanding the society’s reach and influence—contributed to building one of the largest Tocqueville chapters in the country. As they step into honorary roles, their legacy will continue to guide and inspire.
The Tocqueville Society’s strength has always been its leaders—individuals and families who choose not only to give, but to lead. This newest class of chairs builds on that foundation, carrying forward a tradition established by generations of philanthropic visionaries.
A Continued Commitment to Growth and Impact
Looking ahead, the new Tocqueville leadership is united by a shared goal: to continue growing the society’s influence and deepen its impact well beyond its 40th anniversary.
“The Tocqueville Society has long represented the best of North Texas philanthropy,” said Jennifer Sampson, McDermott-Templeton president and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. “This new group of leaders brings fresh energy and a shared commitment to expanding our reach and deepening our impact. They’re not just joining a legacy—they’re building the next chapter.”
A Community of Leaders
For many, Tocqueville membership offers not only an opportunity to make a significant impact—but also to engage alongside peers who share a deep commitment to North Texas.
“For our family, the Tocqueville Society is a powerful way to support United Way’s important work here in North Texas while engaging with like-minded, local philanthropic leaders in meaningful ways throughout the year,” said Laura and Jason Downing, who formerly chaired the $25,000 Tocqueville Circle.
“United Way creates positive impact in communities around the world,” added Mike Hsu, president and CEO of Kimberly-Clark Corporation, who also served as the chair of the $100,000 Tocqueville Circle over the last several years. “On a personal level, I’m honored to support the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and help fuel its next century of groundbreaking community impact.”
We welcome this distinguished group of new co-chairs and look forward to marking Tocqueville’s esteemed 40th Anniversary alongside them—and supporters like you.
