The Community Vulnerability Compass

Community Vulnerability Compass (CVC) is a web-based platform that maps social, economic and health data at the neighborhood level. This powerful tool was developed by our third-party evaluator, PCCI (Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation).

The CVC is the centerpiece of our Data Capacity Building Initiative, or DCBI, which trains nonprofit organizations to use community-level CVC data to guide program decisions, target services and strengthen funding proposals.

Highly Localized Data Mapping

By mapping hyperlocal data at the census block-group level, the CVC allows organizations to visualize neighborhood-specific risks and opportunities. Drawing from sources like the American Community Survey and CDC PLACES, the platform highlights factors such as:

  • Income and employment instability
  • Educational attainment
  • Housing conditions
  • Healthcare access
  • Food access
  • Environmental health risks

Enhancing Community Impact

The CVC combines multiple datasets into a single, easy-to-use interface and maps them at a highly localized level. This enables organizations to detect patterns and make precise decisions about where services are most needed.

    About the Data Capacity Building Initiative

    The CVC is the centerpiece of our Data Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), which trains nonprofits to leverage local data to accelerate community impact. Over five years, the DCBI will equip over 200 community-based partners with the tools and knowledge needed to analyze local challenges and develop sustainable, collaborative solutions.
