Vistra

Vistra Energy and its subsidiary TXU Energy are leading corporate partners of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. In fact, our endowment—which grew to more than $100 million in 2022—began in 1997 with a generous gift of $6 million in assets from Texas Utilities, which is now TXU.

That foundational gift is just one example of a culture of corporate giving at both Vistra and TXU. TXU, which has always had a strong philanthropic tradition, has partnered with United Way for more than half a century. Many employees regularly give back, volunteer and provide support through payroll deductions—making TXU one of United Way’s top Annual Campaign contributors.

TXU’s incredible level of support is mirrored by the team at Vistra as it invests in the North Texas community. With a focus on creating opportunity for our low-income neighbors, the company has contributed $1 million to our Southern Dallas Thrives initiative and cosponsored the North Texas Summer and Supper Council in 2021. And in 2020, the company donated $200,000 to United Way’s Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund, which provided immediate relief and supported long-term rebuilding for our neighbors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, Vistra announced an additional $1 million investment to support our Aspire United 2030 community goals and help fuel our second century of impact. This generous gift will enable United Way to continue to create measurable impact in the areas of education, income and health in the coming years, funding life-changing programs for 1.7 million North Texans—or more—each year.

Vistra is proud to support United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. Together, we share one mission—powering a better way forward. We’ve seen firsthand how our donations address the building blocks of opportunity—education, income and health. We’re on a mission to create stronger, more equitable communities. And we couldn’t ask for a better partner.

Partnership Spotlight: Creating Impact Through Corporate Volunteerism

Vistra is committed to improving education and the welfare of children in communities around the globe. Team members volunteer frequently throughout the year, and giving back is part of the corporate culture. In North Texas, Vistra wanted to find a way to engage employees in regular volunteer events that would have a meaningful impact but wouldn’t require significant planning. They partnered with United Way to create a custom sponsored volunteer series that supports activations throughout the year, such as Stock the School, STEM Fest and their own community-wide Day of Impact. The series also plays a key role in Vistra’s employee engagement efforts, delivering engaging and highly accessible ways for team members to donate their time and talents to create meaningful change in our community.
