At an age when most people are just starting life,
Wayne had to turn his around.
At the age of 21, Wayne was pushing 300 pounds, taking diabetes and cholesterol medications, and his mother had a hard time getting him off the couch. Then he discovered My Possibilities, an organization for adults with developmental, intellectual and physical disabilities, funded in part by United Way. Their Health and Wellness program teaches healthy eating and exercise habits to reduce adult obesity. And as a result, it reduces the long-term effects of obesity on our community’s healthcare system.
Since starting the program, Wayne’s lost more than 40 pounds, discontinued his medications and has a healthier outlook on the future.
