Multiple North Texas Businesses Band Together To Help Raise Funds For The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

DALLAS  (September 5, 2017) – On Friday, September 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thanks-Giving Square, 1627 Pacific Ave., in downtown Dallas will become the best burger joint in Texas to help raise money for Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Thanks to an in-kind donation of more than 6,000 hamburgers from Amazon’s Treasure Truck and Porter & York,
North Texas non-profits United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and Cafe Momentum have enlisted a host of vendors and service providers to help transform the space into a temporary outdoor grill. Hungry attendees can get a FREE hamburger during the three-hour event in exchange for an
on-site donation to United Way’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. A minimum donation of $5 per burger is requested.

“One of the values we teach the interns at Café Momentum is the importance of giving back,
in fact, it’s part of our program curriculum” said Chad Houser, Café Momentum’s founder, CEO and executive director. “So when this opportunity presented itself, we knew this would be an excellent teachable moment where these young men and women could see firsthand Dallas’ business and philanthropic community coming together to execute a plan to raise some serious cash for relief efforts.”

“Burgers for a Cause” is a grass roots, community-wide effort of North Texas businesses interested in giving back. The Omni Hotel provided storage for the donated burgers, buns and cheese, and Chef’s Produce is donating lettuce, tomatoes and a refrigerated truck for the event. Jack Perkins  (Maple & Motor and Mockingbird Diner) is providing the burger cooking equipment along with Ruthie’s Food Trucks who is providing a food truck to cook burgers on-site. Downtown Dallas, Inc. helped secure permits and other necessary logistics, and The Better Block will provide street

activation for the event. Café Momentum staff and volunteers from CrowdSource, The Statler,
The Joule, Oddfellows, and LUCK will assemble and distribute the burgers and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas staff will collect cash and credit donations on-site.

Organizers of “Burgers for a Cause” hope to raise $25,000 from the event. Those unable to attend can make a donation to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund online at unitedwaydallas.org/harveyrelief.
