United Way Announces Fourth Round of Grants to 9 Local Nonprofits

Today, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas awarded grants totaling $265,000 to 9 local nonprofits (see list of recipients below) through our Coronavirus Response & Recovery Fund.

These grants address the immediate needs of North Texans most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including access to food, shelter, healthcare, and emergency financial assistance in response to job/income loss as well as support for the educational and mental health needs of children and adults across North Texas.

These issues–education, income and health—are the day-in-day-out work of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. And this crisis brings their importance into sharp focus. In collaboration with community leaders and 180+ partner organizations, United Way is working quickly and strategically to identify gaps in critical community services, invest in nonprofits on the frontlines, and plan for long-term recovery.

Since launching the fund in mid-March, United Way has invested over $2.3 million in 150 nonprofit organizations providing critical resources for our community. Together, we have impacted the lives of over 421,000 North Texans.

Collectively, the North Texas Cares partners have granted more than $10 million to nonprofits providing coronavirus response and recovery support to North Texans. Our team will continue to provide ongoing funding recommendations to allocate grants and adapt to the evolving needs of the community.

While investments to date have focused primarily on the immediate needs of our community, United Way will shift funding to longer-term initiatives in the coming weeks. Support for this recovery work will be crucial in the aftermath of this public health and economic crisis.

“Together, we can help more people get back to work, more students get back on track for learning and support health and wellness across North Texas,” said Jennifer Sampson, McDermott-Templeton President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. “We are committed to ensuring all North Texans have the opportunity to meet their full potential.”

The work of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is more important now than ever before to build a better future for North Texas. We hope you will join us in supporting our North Texas community through a contribution to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Coronavirus Response & Recovery Fund.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Communities Foundation of Texas, and The Dallas Foundation, joined by nearly two dozen philanthropic funding organizations, launched North Texas Cares, which enables local nonprofits to ask for emergency financial help from all participating organizations through a streamlined online grant application.

The magnitude of this pandemic calls for innovation and proactive, strategic collaboration—at a rapid pace. North Texas Cares is the social impact community’s collective response to addressing both immediate and long-term needs of our most vulnerable populations.

Together we are enabling efficient and timely access to philanthropic dollars, ensuring those resources reach the individuals and families most in need, without placing an undue burden on the nonprofit organizations providing them.
