A Message from Michelle Thomas

2021-2022 Women of Tocqueville Chair

I am so incredibly honored to serve as your 2021-2022 Women of Tocqueville Chair. The collective brilliance and star-power of this diverse and talented group of women who engage and impact our community is incomparable. I joyfully accept this leadership torch from my dear friend and former AT&T colleague, Linda Yohe, who mightily guided us through a year like no other. Additionally, I am thrilled to work alongside our Chair-Elect – who was recently honored as one of Dallas Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 – Mandy Austin, Dallas Market President of the Bank of Texas. Together with the WOT Steering Committee, we look forward to building on the momentum created by over 13 years of WOT leadership impacting the lives of North Texans.

This year, we have our vision set on DEI – diversity, engagement and impact. We will tap into the diverse expertise of our members to engage in activities that cultivate and broaden our outreach into the diverse ethnic, industry, and community sectors around us. We will engage you as conduits to connect, mentor, advise and advocate for a variety of initiatives aligned with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas that will enhance our impact in the community.

If you’re like me, I know that you are looking forward to our signature WOT events like Most Gen Next Gen and Bench & Bar as well as our fun connections events like WOT2Eat/Drink. Investment in the WOT Fund for Women and Children continues to grow and with your continued support and unwavering generosity, the Fund will provide critical assistance for deserving women and children now and in perpetuity.

We continue to follow our North Star established by UWMD in its Aspire United 2030 plan. As you know, we believe that every North Texan, regardless of race or zip code, deserves the opportunity and access needed to achieve their full potential. We believe that it’s up to all of us, our mighty, mighty Women of Tocqueville as well as the entire North Texas community, to make sure everyone has the tools to do just that, by fostering those building blocks of opportunity – Education, Income, and Health – through impactful and innovative solutions.

I am inspired by the final lines of the Inauguration Poem The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman “…for there is always light, if only we are brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.” I can’t wait to see each of you, our brave All-Star luminaries, connect to shine brightly and unite around our 2021-2022 theme — WOT a mighty constellation…when all stars align!

Do good, Be well
