DALLAS – Building on the success of an unprecedented $61-million fundraising year, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is launching its 2018-2019 annual fundraising campaign, led by Texas Instruments Chairman, President and CEO, Rich Templeton and wife, Mary Templeton. Succeeding Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman in the role, the Templetons will rally key supporters toward the organization’s 94th year of fundraising and community impact during a kickoff luncheon at The Chase Tower on Tuesday, September 11th. Resources raised during the campaign will support efforts to achieve bold, 10-year community goals to prepare at least 60-percent of all high school graduates to succeed in college and careers, move 250,000 out of poverty permanently, and improve health and quality of life across North Texas.
“Mary and I are thrilled to serve together as the next chairs of United Way’s annual campaign,” said Rich Templeton, who served as United Way Campaign Chair in 2012-13. “United Way is the backbone for addressing the growing needs in our community, continually assessing existing programs and creating new ones that have the best odds of making a difference in the lives of many. We are committed to leading a collective effort to ensure a North Texas community thriving with healthy, educated and financially secure residents, both now and in the future.”
“Our family is passionate about United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the work it does improving lives in our community,” added Mary Templeton. “I am personally inspired by the legacies of two of United Way’s longest and generous patrons, Ruth Altshuler and Margaret McDermott, both dear friends who took me under their giant philanthropic wings and taught me what it means to give wisely. Rich and I are inspired by the opportunity to come together to carry on their efforts to keep making our community better.”
United Way’s annual campaign will engage long-standing corporate, civic and philanthropic relationships, while establishing new ones through innovative digital fundraising strategies. Building on the momentum of last year’s effort, the organization hopes to again lead North Texas to the title of ‘Most Generous City in America’ on #Giving Tuesday. Championing #GiveBigDFW on November 27, 2018, the Templeton family plans to lead volunteer engagement efforts across the region on the global day of giving that falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, kicking off the holiday season with a focus on sharing and caring.
“Rich is a powerful influence and example in our business community, while Mary is the driving force behind the expansion of United Way leadership to family leadership, a strategy we had hoped and planned for years ago,” said Jennifer Sampson, McDermott-Templeton President and CEO, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. “I deeply admire them both for their vision and commitment, and am profoundly grateful for their leadership. They have big dreams for our community, and they believe passionately that we have the potential to make those dreams a reality for all the people of North Texas.”
The first-ever couple to lead the campaign, the Templetons follow Aikman and six fellow North Texas-based, global CEOs who have led United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ local campaign including: 2011 Campaign Chair and Chairman, CEO and President of AT&T, Inc. Randall Stephenson; 2013 Campaign Chair and Chairman and CEO of Kimberly-Clark Corporation Tom Falk; 2014 Campaign Chair and President and CEO of Advance Auto Parts Tom Greco; 2015 Campaign Chair and Chairman and CEO of Fluor Corporation David Seaton; and 2016 Campaign Chair and Chairman and CEO of Celanese Corporation Mark Rohr.
