Eighth annual event brings more than 1,400 associates contributing an estimated 7,000 volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area
DALLAS, TX (October 26, 2017) – Frito-Lay and other PepsiCo associates from offices throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area will participate in a day-long volunteer effort today as part of the eighth annual PepsiCo Day of Caring event. This year, more than 1,400 associates will donate approximately 7,000 volunteer hours to 22 deserving United Way service providers helping North Texans in need.
Volunteers will kick off the day at Frito-Lay’s Plano headquarters, and will then begin day-long projects that align with United Way’s key focus areas of education, income and health.
This year’s projects include a fall festival for senior citizens, landscaping and other outdoor beautification projects, indoor furniture and aesthetics repairs, organizing needed supplies and gifts, as well as preparing various types of care kits, baskets and crafts.
Through PepsiCo and Frito-Lay’s participation in Day of Caring, an estimated 40,000 volunteer hours have been completed at area nonprofits throughout the past seven years. PepsiCo and Frito-Lay’s involvement in Day of Caring stands as one of the largest corporate Day of Caring events in the area, consistently providing more than 1,000 volunteers annually.
“The Dallas-Ft. Worth community is Frito-Lay’s backyard, making it imperative that PepsiCo and Frito-Lay associates take the time to give back to the area,” said Chris Kuechenmeister, senior vice president, North America communications, PepsiCo. “At the end of the day, it’s humbling to see the positive effect our associates are able to make through the projects and volunteer opportunities. Our partnership with United Way and helping serve its clients is an opportunity that we honor greatly.”
Volunteers will support the following local organizations during the 2017 PepsiCo United Way Day of Caring event:
• Bonton Farms (two locations)
• Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County

Beyond today’s volunteer projects, PepsiCo and its Frito-Lay division have been longtime supporters of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. The PepsiCo United Way Day of Caring event closes out a month-long effort of the employee fundraising campaign held annually to benefit area nonprofit organizations and United Way initiatives.
The PepsiCo Foundation, PepsiCo’s philanthropic arm, also provides grant funding to support the Healthy Zone Recognition Program®, which was developed by United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and The Cooper Institute to recognize and reward schools for their healthy habits. Since 2014, PepsiCo has provided nearly $900,000 in grants to the program that has recently expanded to more than 160 area schools this year, serving nearly 110,000 students. Healthy Zone Schools are represented on the list of entities where PepsiCo and Frito-Lay associates will volunteer during this year’s PepsiCo United Way Day of Caring.
These efforts will continue to assist United Way in reaching its 10-year community goals: preparing at least 60 percent of kids to graduate ready to succeed, moving 250,000 people out of poverty permanently, and improving health across the region.
“Today’s PepsiCo United Way Day of Caring, one of the largest corporate volunteer events in North Texas, is just the most recent example of PepsiCo and Frito-Lay’s dedication to improving lives in our community,” said Jennifer Sampson, McDermott-Templeton president and CEO, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. “Whether PepsiCo/Frito-Lay employees are volunteering to assist senior citizens or the company is providing support to fight obesity in young people through Healthy Zone Schools, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay’s commitment to ‘performance with purpose’ is truly inspiring.”
PepsiCo, its associates as well as the PepsiCo Foundation have invested more than $18 million in United Way programs throughout the past five years alone. For more information, visit PepsiCo.com, FritoLay.com or UnitedWayDallas.org.
