Hurricane Laura Relief + Resources

Our hearts go out to everyone whose lives have been affected by Hurricane Laura. We welcome evacuees from the Gulf and Texas/Louisiana border to North Texas. The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas team has gathered resources for our neighbors in need—and for members of our community who would like to lend a hand. As always, in case of emergency please call 9-1-1.

RESOURCES

EVACUATIONS CENTERS
North Texas currently has two evacuation centers that have opened for those evacuating from Hurricane Laura in state buses. They are being operated by the Red Cross:

  1. The Mesquite Reception Center at 15515 E. I-20 Mesquite, TX 75181
  2. Knights of Columbus Hall at 850 S. I-45 Ennis, TX 75119

These centers will provide temporary immediate assistance to evacuees including comfort accommodations, snacks, and water. Those who arrive at the center will check in and then will receive transport and vouchers to area hotels.

Due to the pandemic, efforts are being made to find hotel accommodations for those who need them rather than creating traditional group shelters. Any mass shelters like the convention center will be used as a last resort.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is working to identify and coordinate additional hotel availability and other needs. Additionally, they are working with state resources for COVID testing for all guests.

INDIVIDUAL EVACUEES

Evacuees using their own vehicle should call 2-1-1 for additional information.
