United Way Hosts Live! In The Park Health & Wellness Fair at Klyde Warren

Texas Instruments Presents Free, Family-Friendly Event and Concert

April 9, 2016

Hundreds of corporate and community volunteers will unite to promote community health and wellness at Live! In the Park, a family-friendly health fair at Klyde Warren Park on Saturday, April 9th. Thousands are expected to attend to enjoy free fitness classes, health screenings, healthy eating contests and live music celebrating efforts toward a healthier North Texas. The health fair will take place from 1pm – 6pm and culminate with a free concert on the pavilion lawn’s main stage beginning at 6:30pm.

“Good health influences everything from how well a child is able to learn in the classroom to how much an adult is able to earn in the workplace,” said Terri Grosh, Employee Engagement Manager, Texas Instruments. “We are proud to partner in United Way’s work to provide access to healthy food and quality health care for all North Texans. Live! In the Park is designed to engage and encourage our entire community toward this critical cause.”

Sponsored by Texas Instruments, Cigna, and Energy Future Holdings and its family of companies including Luminant and TXU Energy, the health fair will feature Energy in Action yoga and boot camp classes, the Cigna Healthy Eating Challenge with bicycle-powered blenders, Gold’s Gym SH’BAM exercise classes, and a Healthy Zone School student fitness competition. Families can also enjoy face painting, crafts, giveaways, and musical entertainment throughout the park.

“Better health leads to better lives,” said Jennifer Sampson, CEO and President, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. “When children are healthy, they perform better academically. When adults are healthy, we can provide for our families and contribute to our communities. United Way is committed to ensuring all North Texans have the opportunities and resources to lead healthy, responsible lives.”

To improve health across North Texas, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas currently funds 57 programs focused on expanding access to medical care for all ages, increasing availability of preventative care for healthy moms and babies, fighting obesity, preventing substance abuse and reducing abuse of children, partners and seniors. Since 2011, United Way has invested over $23 million in health-related initiatives including the Healthy Zone School Recognition Program, an initiative developed by United Way and The Cooper Institute to address childhood obesity at the school-level, currently serving 72,000 local children.

With TI as the presenting sponsor, the Unite for Change community impact series consists of six area-wide volunteer events focused on improving education, financial stability and health across North Texas. Unite for Change was created to engage many local corporate partners in meaningful volunteer projects over a six-month period. The projects will help reach United Way’s 10-year community goals: preparing at least 60 percent of all kids to graduate ready to succeed, moving 250,000 people out of poverty permanently, and improving health across the region.
