Going to college was never an option that had crossed Yaneth’s mind. No one in her family had ever attended college, and the finances just weren’t lining up. Yaneth assumed she would follow the same path as her siblings: get a job, get married and have kids. Then, she decided she wanted something more.
Yaneth found Young Women’s Leadership Academy, one of the high schools that United Way of Metropolitan Dallas funds as part of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. It was there that she received the education, opportunities and resources she needed to apply for college. 100% of Yaneth’s graduating class was accepted into college, and Yaneth received $65,000 in scholarship offers.
Now, Yaneth is pursuing her degree in occupation therapy to help children like her 10-year old niece who has Down Syndrome.
