Why is it important for you to give back to your community?
Our community is rich with exciting opportunity and fraught with devastating challenges. We can all use a hand up from someone, and we can all extend a hand to someone else to help them. In this way, we build a true community, where the opportunity of one is the opportunity of all, and the challenge of one is the challenge of all. We have incredible resources here, and I am very hopeful that we can truly improve the community around us by improving the lives of those around us.

What is your dream for Dallas?
My dream is that we would lock arms together and continue to push forward until all individuals and families in Dallas have the opportunity to lead happy and healthy lives.

What is your most memorable volunteer or impact moment with United Way?
My most memorable moment is working with the Women of Tocqueville on increasing the number of hours that daycare workers needed to be trained in Texas. We researched, we developed our case, we lobbied our legislators, we made progress, and then we were defeated. No matter…we kept going. And within two years, our proposal was passed. That sort of tenacity is what is needed to make real, sustainable, positive change in the community.
